Marvel Productions has been responsible for the many recent comic book-inspired, big-screen productions such as the Hulk, Ghost Rider, and the more recent Iron Man. Now they intend to expand their entertainment horizons by placing their heroes and villains in a new venue—the Great White Way.
He swings from building to building fighting crime, and now he sings? Spiderman, which is already deep into readings and rehearsals, will soon be on Broadway. The director Julie Taymor has directed many other theater and big-screen productions, such as The Lion King on Broadway, as well as her recent big-screen musical Across the Universe. Jim Sturgess, the leading man in Across the Universe, has had huge success this past year in films, and Taymor has taken notice. According to Men’ Vogue May 2008 issue, he has been officially cast as Peter Parker. The music and lyrics will be composed by Bono and the Edge of U2, hopefully bringing a serious, rocker vibe to the show and less campy.
If Spiderman does become a success, it will definitely change the audiences of Broadway musical productions. It will allow for a larger spectrum of audiences. The Spiderman fans may come to appreciate what is considered a “high-brow” art form, and Broadway’s regular attendees may come to appreciate the stories of superheroes as an art form and start frequenting comic book shops.
Either way, I and the public will just have to wait for this unexpected and daring debut to see it effects on the theater as we know it.

Last night I watched PS I Love You for the second time in comforts of my own living room. The first time I viewed this film was with a friend at a movie theater. Now, I love sweet sappy stories. So when it came to this movie where the leading lady loses her man within the first five minutes, the tissues came out. However, on this second viewing, things appeared a little differently.
The cast of PS includes Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. Hilary we have known for more abrasive, and even tomboyish movies like Boys don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby, and her latest Freedom Writers so it felt rather awkward to watch her “pretend” to be angry in the first scene, and “pretend” to miss Gerry, and the most annoying scene where they flashback to her in Ireland at nineteen. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hilary, but she does seem to look and act strangely in more feminine roles. Let’s talk about Gerry. I am biased about him because honestly, any guy with a British/Irish/Scottish accent can say anything and sound sexy. You know him from 300, Dear Frankie, and the ol’ Phantom of the Opera. Part of me feels bad he didn’t get any great lines, other than the same old same old movie romantic lines. You know what I mean. In fact, I feel sorry for much of the cast. This seemed like a sweet story gone badly. As the New York Times best described it as, “The big-screen equivalent of a paperback romance.” Kudos to Kudrow—she made everything brighter with her appearances. Poor Harry Connick, Jr. was just weird. It was also strange that director Richard LaGravenese, who directed Freedom Writer, also directed Hilary in this movie. Maybe he was out of his element as well. I feel like this movie could have done better in the old Hollywood with stars like Joan Crawford, or even Katherine Hepburn.
But of course, all this does not matter when you’ve had a hard day and all you need is a sappy story like this and a pint of pistachio ice cream. You’re not evaluating the probability of the story or the level of acting…you just want to be entertained and feel something. I just loved the faux-Irish (Mr. Butler is from Glasgow) accent and scenes from Ireland. Also, the “small, cramped” apartment Holly continually complained about, I woudl die to have in NYC. Throw in great shoes, a cute apartment, good soundtrack, and two hunk-ably adorbale Irish guys and I’ll watch that!
P.S. I am so happy to be home again!

hello blog world!
The beginnings of this blog is result of an idea my mother had. I enjoy writing– not necessarly writing school papers or anything that is worthy to be read by others, but sometimes I write for personal therapy or for entertaining others. So she thought if I put my writing somewhere I could go back, read them and reflect, it would be interesting to see the journey I have taken with my life. I am the kind of person who still writes letters by hand and sends them through what is called the U.S. Postal Service. Lovely company that can send these letters to various family members and friends. That whole bit is a very unfortunate situation which I may get to later on on this blog. However, I suppose the main goal or desire I have in writing this blog is to get my ideas, thoughts, and dreams out there. What good was my childhood diary? I sometimes wonder. Yes, for reflection it is pretty hilarious to go back and read my problems and dramatics from when I was in elementry school, but for me now as a young adult, I have this enormous feeling that those scribbles can amount to something greater. My ideas or just a review of my day written down in a blog like this may help me more. You see, I am extremely ambitious and I have a wandering mind. Perhaps organizing my thoughts into my writings, then posting them for the world to see can do something for me. Who knows? I guess we shall see.
